The Library Network aligns the projects "Easy Reading Clubs" and "Mobile Training for people over 55" with the SDGs
In the recent years, one of the lines of work of the Library Services Management has been to know the capacity of the libraries in the Municipal Library Network of the Barcelona Provincial Council to generate value for citizens and to provide them with tools that allow them to enhance social value through transversal work and cooperation.
In this sense, the Library Services Management initiated a work process in the autumn of 2017 to align itself with the strategy of the Barcelona Provincial Council in relation to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The Goal that the library field especially serves is to “promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels" (Goal 16). The various facilities of the Municipal Libraries Network carry out activities that reinforce this goal. Among the many proposals, we highlight:
Mobile phone training course for people over fifty-five. It is a joint action between the Pere Tarrés Foundation and the Vodafone Foundation in collaboration with the Network of Municipal Libraries, and revolves around the digital training aimed at a public from the age of fifty-five and focused on learning how to use mobile devices.
Easy Reading Clubs. These are activities that promote reading with easy-to-read books to make reading accessible to people with language, reading skills and/or temporary or permanent understanding difficulties.
