Detailed information on the prevention and control of Legionnaires' disease

Legionellasis is a disease that affects the respiratory tract and that, depending on the characteristics of the patient, can be very serious.

The entry pathway to the organism is by inhalation of contaminated aerosols from facilities that generate aerosols during operation, service tests or maintenance, these facilities are collected non-exhaustively in Annex I of RD 487/2022.

Municipal competences in the field of prevention and control of legionellosis are contained in Decree 352/2004, which distinguishes two areas of competence of the municipalities: as owners of facilities and as competent administration in control activities in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
